Shah Rukh Khan has done it with elegance, and twice in the same year. In January, he became the first person to join the Rs. 500 Crore Club for a Bollywood film with ‘Pathaan.’ Only eight months after releasing his mega entertaining action thriller, ‘Jawan’, he has gone one step (or should I say, 100 crores?) further and opened the Rs. 600 Crore Club.
Yes, this has occurred. The superstar has retaliated in spectacular fashion, largely competing with himself in terms of box office success. Oh, and there was ‘Gadar 2’ to contend with, which actually broke ‘Pathaan's’ record in the Hindi version. However, ‘Jawan’ has surpassed that as well in this prolonged weekend, and while the Hindi version is the largest of them all at over Rs. 545 crores, it's the total-language collection that is simply mind-boggling.
With over Rs. 60 crores coming from the Telugu and Tamil versions, ‘Jawan’ has soared to a score of over Rs. 600 crores, which is just incredible. This has never happened before for a Hindi film, and the only other two films to have achieved such staggering results are ‘Baahubali 2: The Conclusion’ and ‘KGF: Chapter 2.’ Both of these films were huge in Hindi, which assured that when combined with the original south versions, the numbers were the biggest ever.
‘Jawan’, on the other hand, is ensuring that a core Bollywood actor also becomes a trend setter. With around Rs. 615 crores already in its pocket and a lifetime score of approximately Rs. 675 crores in the works for Jawan, Shah Rukh Khan is now passing the torch to his next big release, ‘Dunki’. The Rajkumar Hirani film will be released before the Christmas weekend, with the intention of capitalizing on the holiday season by going through the major national holidays around New Year's Eve and earning even more money.
Is he considering joining the Rs. 700 Crore Club? Well, he could be, however the entrance of Salaar could throw a wrench in his plans. If there had been no competition, one could easily have set higher records. However, having to compete with another large budget action film developed on the big screen could make a record journey impossible. However, a large sum is undoubtedly in the works, and entrance into the Rs. 500 Crore Club would be the bare minimum for the Shah Rukh Khan-starrer.
