‘The Archies’, Zoya Akhtar's next film, has been making headlines since its announcement for a variety of reasons. The film is based on the Archie comics and takes place in a 1960s Anglo-Indian society. Agastya Nanda, Suhana Khan, Khushi Kapoor, Mihir Ahuja, Yuvraj Menda, Vedang Raina, and Dot are among the rookies and star youngsters in the film.
Interestingly, the film came about in an unexpected way, while Zoya was preparing to adapt another comic. In an interview with Vogue, she explained the story behind the film, stating, “I had a meeting with Sharad Devarajan, co-founder of Graphic India, who contacted me because he wanted me to adapt another comic. While we were speaking, I happened to tell him that I’m a huge fan of the Archie comics. He said, ‘Oh, it’s ours and we just leased it to Netflix.’”

After hearing this, Zoya concluded that the opportunity to adapt the Archie comics had passed her by. She was in for a pleasant surprise, though.
“In my head, it (the project) was gone since it had been handed over to a streaming platform. The next thing you know, he spoke with Netflix, and they contacted me to ask if I would like to make the film,” said Zoya.
