Karthik Subbaraj, like many of his admirers, grew up watching Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan films, two Tamil cinema icons. He has now revealed his wish to cast the two in his next historical action comedy, ‘Jigarthanda Double X’, in a dream form.
The trailer for the film was released on November 4 and has received generally excellent reviews. The teaser also included various sights and sequences that alluded to some of filmmaking's forefathers. Karthik Subbaraj mentioned in a recent interview that the film was influenced by Rajinikanth's life. In another interview with The Hindu, he disclosed that ‘Jigarthanda Double X’ is an homage to Satyajit Ray and Clint Eastwood.

On Wednesday, Karthik turned to X (previously Twitter) to upload a morphed poster of ‘Jigarthanda Double X’ with Rajinikanth's face on Raghava Lawrence's and Kamal Haasan's face on SJ Suryah's.
Indeed, Karthik Subbaraj recently confessed on social media that if he had been born many decades earlier, he would have preferred to direct the film starring Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan. He also uploaded a poster of them as the characters Raghava Lawrence and SJ Suryah, respectively.
He captioned the post, “I kept dreaming to my AD team that if I was born decades earlier, I would have made #JigarthandaDoubleX with Thalaivar & UlagaNayagan. My associate director mahesbalu17 took that seriously (hug and red heart emojis). #DoubleXDiwali in 2 days."
Satyajit Ray and Clint Eastwood, two film pioneers, are expressly mentioned in the teaser. In actuality, SJ Suryah's character is an ambitious director who served as an assistant to Satyajit Ray, whereas Raghava Lawrence's character desires to have a Clint Eastwood cut-out in the local theatre.
