Ok Jaanu Review | Aditya Roy Kapur | Shraddha Kapoor

One line Review: The tale of two youngsters who get into a no strings attached kind of relationship only to fall in true love. Positive Points: The chemistry of the lead pair is enthralling. The story line is executed aptly making it an entertaining affair. The run time of the film is perfect thanks to the tight editing. The songs are a delight. Negative Points: There are portions which seem unreal and a way too Bollywoodish. Also, the plot is extremely predictable and has no fresh story to narrate. Plot: Tara (Shraddha Kapoor) and Adi (Aditya Roy Kapur) meet in an impromptu circumstance where Tara is trying to commit suicide while fighting with her boyfriend and Adi tries to save her. Destiny plays the magic trick and they both meet again at a common friend’s wedding. Adi is a budding game developer and Tara is an architect. They instantly hit a connection and become more than friends. Sooner, they decide to live-in together for a few months at Adi’s PG which is retired High Court Justice G Shrivastava’s (Naseeruddin Shah) house. Mr. G Shrivastava lives with his beloved wife Charu who is a classical singer and Alzheimer’s patient. After convincing Mr. G Shrivastava and his wife, Tara and Adi start living in together. The duo live their dream life in those 6 months where they are mostly seen enjoying the perks of a live-in relationship. Their no strings attached kind of a relationship starts seeing a few signs of love after witnessing the true affection and bonding of their house owners. Until one fine day when Tara gets admission in her dream architect college in Paris while Adi is promoted to US for his game development career. Now, the young couple only has 10 days to spend together before they part ways to pursue their respective careers. Direction and other Technical Aspects: Shaad Ali has done a fairly commendable job when it comes to direction. He has executed the script beautifully. The actors add their charm to the perfectly written roles. The dialogues by Gulzar sir are on point and so realistic that they do not seem made up. The ease with which the story flows is another plus. The city of Mumbai is aptly captured, the essence being speed. Tara and Adi’s life also moves quite swiftly than normal and their family characters are also carved well. There are a few sequences which seem dragged and unreal but overall, the film is entertaining. The songs and performances of all the actors is what makes the film more likable. Performances: Aditya Roy Kapur is his usual causal self in the film. He is the everyday urban guy. His performance is praiseworthy and he pulls off the scenes where is scared and is troubled by Tara, very well. Shraddha Kapoor is a star. She is a delight to watch on the big screen. The actress has the charm to light up the screen with her presence. Needless to say, Shraddha delivers a perfect performance and is lovable to the core. Naseeruddin Shah is a gem. His character is super interesting and likable. He is strict as well as loving. The veteran star does complete justice to the role. Leela Samson plays the role of Naseerudin’s ailing wife. She essays her role with full sincerity. Music: All the songs are lovable and already a huge hit amongst the viewers and music lovers. Humma Humma, the title track and others are a visual treat. The classical numbers Sun Bawara, Sajan Ayo re used in portions at the backdrop works wonders as well. Final Verdict: It is a youthful and light-hearted film which can sum up for a good weekend treat. Perfect to watch with your respective Jaanus and friends for an entertaining time!

An adorable, fresh and breezy rehash of Mani Ratnam's 2015 multiplex hit O KADHAI KANMANI (Oh Love, Apple of my Eye), Shaad Ali's OK JAANU is a harmless tribute to his mentor/guru - Mani Ratnam's 'playing safe' return to mainstream recognition. How much it 'figures out' for Shaad after the KILL DIL debacle and JHOOM BARABAR JHOOM that failed to make the required 'dhoom' needs to be seen.

Director Shaad Ali is back with OK Jaanu, a remake of Mani Ratnam's Tamil hit OK Kanmani. His last directorial outing, Kill Dil, was an unmitigated debacle. OK Jaanu marks the return of Shraddha Kapoor and Aditya Roy Kapur as the lead pair after three years (Aashiqui 2), and their chemistry is one of the main draws of the film.

OK JAANU is a love story about a young couple's live-in relationship and the ups and downs that they face in their respective lives. The film starts off with the 'alighting' of Aditya Gunjal aka Adi (Aditya Roy Kapur) and the 'suicidal threat' of Tara Agnihotri (Shraddha Kapoor). As luck would have it, these two rank strangers (Adi and Tara) bump into each other at a common friend's wedding and hit off from there. Right from the word go, both, Adi and Tara are extremely clear about what they want from their respective lives.

Mani Ratnam delivered a commercially and critically successful film with O Kandhal Kanmani in 2015. With Ok Jaanu, which hits the theatres on Friday, Shaad Ali remakes the movie - borrowing Ratnam's screenplay but treating it to the silky, royal touch of Gulzar's dialogues. So, we have been hearing about the tale of young love that Ok Jaanu is all about. However, allow us to forewarn you, it's something more than that. Let's just say Shraddha Kapoor and Aditya Roy Kapur form the supporting cast, while Naseeruddin Shah and Leela Samson play strong lead roles.

OK Jaanu is the story of non committal Tara and Adi who want to focus on their careers. Adi is a game developer whose only aim is to make it big and go to the US. Adi accidentally meets Tara first at the railway station and then at a friend's wedding. The two instantly hit it off and even exchange numbers. During the course of their interaction Tara reveals to Adi about her plans of pursuing architecture in Paris. Adi and Tara at the beginning decide that marriage isn't meant for him and opt for a live-in relationship instead.

Replace Adi with Aidan, Aman, Anthony, Ahmad, Rustom, Gurvinder, Armaan or any of lakhs of available male names, and what you have is a question women have been asked for decades. What do you want more? Love or career? Marriage and children or that job? Because it has been decreed by those who know what is best for us better than we do, that wombs are incapacitated by ambition, and maternal instincts - a.k.a. every female human's bounden duty - drown in professional success. As is often the case in life, so too in Ok Jaanu, the question is asked by a well-meaning person.

Romance prompts labels and rules. There's always a 'type' to describe both the individuals in a couple, the arrangement they agree upon and the guidelines they hope to set and follow for the sake of perfection or peace. But the heart is no slave to system and gives precedence to impulse above anything else.

A breezy, feel-good romance with its share of highs, OK Jaanu floats along through some interesting thematic territory without managing to soar to the altitude one expects it to. This is a slightly modified remake of Mani Ratnam's Tamil smash hit OK Kanmani, enlivened by a charming and lively pair of leads and lent a degree of gravitas by the supporting duo of Naseeruddin Shah and Leela Samson.

Throughout the movie, Adi (Aditya Roy Kapur) and Tara (Shraddha Kapoor) seem to be running after trains or buses in motion, barely getting in before it's too late - a great metaphor for the love lives of people of today's generation. Adi is a video game developer with the American dream; Tara is an architect, destined for Paris. But they lock eyes at a wedding and all their plans go out of the window. They flirt, take a trip together, move in and decide to date for as long as they're both in Mumbai.

The official remake of Mani Ratnam's Ok Kanmani tries for everything that a winsome romance should have: good-looking young couple, perky dialogues, song-and-dance, picturesque locations. Ratnam's pass at young love in Mumbai was a hit, but wasn't a great film, even though Dulquer Salman and Nithya Menen played really well together. Shaad Ali's copy Ok Jaanu, with a screenplay by Ratnam, is faithful but pale and predictable, and doesn't lift off the screen.

Adi (Aditya Roy Kapur), a video game developer saves a complete stranger Tara (Shraddha Kapoor), an architect, who was about to jump in front of a local train in Mumbai after fighting with her boyfriend. Just few days later, the two meet again in a church at Adi's close buddy Jenny's wedding and they hit it off instantly. In no time, they become more than just friends, in their words, Jaanu.
