The Telugu mythological drama film ‘Shaakuntalam’ was written and directed by Gunasekhar in 2023. The movie, which has a budget of more than Rs 0.60 crores, was co-produced by Sri Venkateshwara Creations and Neelima Guna of Gunaa Teamworks.
The movie was made available in Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi on the 14th of this month. However, it is believed that the film only had a small number of openings due to Samantha's lack of other notable stars and the film's unfavourable reception from both moviegoers and critics.
The movie made Rs 5 crore across all languages on its first day despite not drawing sizable crowds. It performed poorly and experienced a decline on Day 2. Early estimates indicate that ‘Shaakuntalam’ only made Rs 1.5 crore on Day 2. ‘Shaakuntaam’ was able to make Rs 2 crores on day 3. According to sources, the movie has had a dismal day at the box office and is having difficulty breaking double-digit numbers. ‘Shaakuntalam’ was able to make Rs 0.60 crore on day 4. The film is rumoured to have flopped in its debut weekend even though the producers haven't yet released the actual box office numbers. On April 17, 2023, ‘Shaakuntalam’ had a 9.63% Telugu occupancy overall.
