Rituparno Ghosh is the only director to have worked with all four actors in the Bachchan family: Amitabh, Jaya, Abhishek, and Aishwarya. Sanjay Leela Bhansali, on the other hand, has worked extensively with Aishwarya and only once with Amitabh Bachchan. Bhansali expressed his hope to work with Amitabh again, considering their previous collaboration a memorable experience, and expressed his admiration for Amitabh's portrayal of Debraj, the tutor to the blind and deaf Michelle. Bhansali mentioned that he would have shelved 'Black' if Amitabh Bachchan hadn't agreed to be part of it. Remarkably, Amitabh Bachchan didn't charge a fee for the film, showing his belief in the project.

Bhansali expressed his desire to work with Amitabh Bachchan again but acknowledged the challenge of finding a project that matches or surpasses 'Black.' Notably, 'Black' was co-produced by Bhansali and Applause Entertainment, with Sameer Nair, the brain behind Amitabh Bachchan's 'Kaun Banega Crorepati,' being a part of the latter company now focused on web series and feature-film production.
