If fate hadn't changed, Sridevi's 60th birthday would have been today. Filmmakers would have been clamouring to give her parts that would show off her unique skills. The famous Telugu actor Nagarjuna says this about Sridevi's aura: "No one comes close to her. She can't be replaced, and we miss her a lot. It was a pleasure to work with her.

She went from being a quiet watcher to a dazzling star by bringing a lot of electric energy to the screen. Directors tell new women to "act like Sridevi" when they want them to do something spontaneous.

Shatrughan Sinha has a lot of respect for Sridevi: "When she looked at the camera, she changed." She changed into someone else. In Harmesh Malhotra's Sherni, she played the brave 'sherni,' and I played the innocent 'bakra.' The whole story was based on her character. I was asked why I wanted to play that part. It was easy for me to answer: Sridevi. No one will ever be like her again."

Sridevi's rise to fame began with Himmatwala. Veteran actor Jeetendra remembers how she got the part: "The original Telugu 'Himmatwala' starred Jaya Prada, but for the Hindi version, we were committed to relaunching Sridevi. Since Jaya Prada was already a big Telugu star, it was strange. It was hard to explain to her that Sridevi had been picked. Director K Raghavendra Rao and I talked to her about it, and she said yes.

"Jaya Prada accepted the situation," Jeetendra says next. "I had seen her play the romantic lead with the famous Telugu actor N T Rama Rao, who was three times her age, and she did it with the skill of a pro. Even though we were different ages, Sridevi treated me with the greatest respect during Himmatwala. He was also a great dancer who could do choreography with ease. We worked together on 17 films."
