Karan Johar has stated in numerous interviews that his 2016 film ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’ was inspired by a personal experience of sorrow, anguish, and one-sided love.
In a recent interview, he confessed, “That person was completely sensitive to me and went through every beat with me with utmost sensitivity so I can neither hate that person nor can be indifferent towards them. One his most valued friend, Bollywood's Baadshah Shah Rukh Khan, the ace director told how he stood by him like a rock.
Karan said, "I'll never forget how Shah Rukh brought me out. He said, 'I'll take the bullet for you, you just stand here'. That's when I realised this is a forever relationship."

Work-wise, Karan Johar is receiving praise for the film ‘Kill’, which he and Guneet Monga produced. ‘Kill’, featuring Lakshya and Raghav Juyal, just debuted at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) 2023. The 48th annual event was held from September 7 to September 17.
