Reports indicate that he took his own life at his esteemed ND Studio in Karjat, located just a 90-minute drive away from Mumbai. The devastating incident occurred just days before Desai's upcoming birthday on August 9, where he would have turned 58.

In 2005, Nitin Desai unveiled his ambitious project, ND Studios, sprawled across 52 acres in Karjat. This magnificent space served as the backdrop for numerous film sets, including the grandeur of 'Jodha Akbar.' Not limited to films, ND Studios also hosted several seasons of the popular reality show 'Bigg Boss.'

"Desai's body was found hanging with a rope in the morning at the ND Studio," Raigad Superintendent of Police Somnath Gharge said.

With a distinguished career spanning over two decades, Nitin Desai was a four-time National Award winner for Best Art Direction. His creative brilliance adorned the sets of numerous blockbuster films, including iconic masterpieces like 'Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam,' 'Devdas,' 'Jodha Akbar,' 'Lagaan,' and 'Bajirao Mastani,' among many others. Collaborating with esteemed filmmakers such as Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Ashutosh Gowarikar, Vidhu Vinod Chopra, and Rajkumar Hirani, Desai left an indelible mark on Indian cinema.

Beyond his extraordinary artistry, Desai explored other realms of the industry, venturing into film production and direction. He took on the role of film producer in 2003, with 'Desh Devi Maa Ashapura,' later making his mark in television production with the blockbuster Marathi serial 'Raja Shivchhatrapati.' As a director, he helmed projects like 'Hello Jai Hind!' (2011) and 'Ajintha' (2012), captivating audiences with his storytelling prowess.

One of his notable works as a producer was the biopic 'Balgandharva' (2011), a homage to the illustrious Marathi singer and stage actor, Shripad Rajhans. Nitin Desai's contributions extended across various spheres of the entertainment industry, earning him respect and admiration among both his peers and audiences.
