In an conversation with 'Taali' creators Arjun Singgh Baran and Kartk D Nishandar discussed the casting process. "As we crafted the narrative of 'Taali' alongside writer Kshitij Patwardhan, a prevailing notion emerged: at its core, this is the journey of a mother," remarked Arjun. Shreegauri, the first transgender woman to adopt a kid, grows from 12 to 40 as a mother.

Arjun stressed that a male actor could not play the character since it required emotional depth, maternal love, and subtle emotions. "Men cannot properly represent motherly feelings, affection, and subtlety. "We've seen films and TV shows become caricatures," Arjun said.

From the start, Sushmita Sen was the ultimate Shreegauri Sawant. Arjun noted that Sushmita and Shreegauri share beauty, eloquence, and a commanding presence that captivates listeners. "Be it anyone, even myself, whenever Shreegauri speaks, people are spellbound," Arjun enthused. Sushmita Sen's quick and enthusiastic answer won her over other applicants.

Kartk D Nishandar stressed the narrative's theme of unsung heroes and the need to share this riveting story with the world. Kartk noted that the story must appeal to a wide audience, even if Gauri is naturally fluent. Having Miss Universe Sushmita Sen play a transsexual character makes the series international.
