In 2018, Netflix India had announced a prequel streaming show to SS Rajamouli’s global blockbuster Baahubali: The Beginning (2015) with much fanfare. Titled Baahubali: Before The Beginning, the series had Mrunal Thakur fronting the cast as Sivagami Devi, played by Ramya Krishnan in Baahubali: The Beginning and Baahubali: The Conclusion (2017). However, if fresh reports are to be believed, the project has come to a screeching halt for reasons more than one.
SS Rajamouli was earlier set to direct the high-profile prequel series but opted out later. The project has since suffered a series of setbacks, including Mrunal Thakur bowing out of it due to date issues.
Now, as per the latest development, Baahubali-Before The Beginning has been put on hold, despite Bombay Fables joining the venture as a new creative producer. A number of directors have been attached to the project to helm it.
After SS Rajamouli exited, Kunal Deshmukh came onboard but opted out later. Anurag Singh was also being considered to call the shots, but things did not fall into place with him.
After Mrunal Thakur exited, actress Wamiqa Gabbi was cast to play Sivagami but there has been no confirmation if she is still a part of the cast. Tamil actress Nayanthara, however, still continues to be a part of the series, as per reports.
