Announced with much fanfare, Ekta Kapoor’s upcoming reality show Lock Upp has landed in big legal trouble. The City Civil Court of Hyderabad has ordered a stay on releasing the show hosted by renowned Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut.
Sanober Baig had recently accused the makers of Lock Upp of stealing his idea. Baig is the sole right holder of the story and the script of the concept The Jail. And when the court saw the trailer of Lock Upp, it concluded that Kapoor’s show appears similar to the concept of Baig’s The Jail.
Lock Upp was set to start streaming on ALTBalaji and MX Player 27th February 2022. However, the court has passed the order restraining the makers from exhibiting the show on any electronic media, social media, etc.
The concept is owned by Pride Media through its proprietor Sanober Baig and was written by Shaantanu Ray and Sheershak Anand and registered under the copyright act on 7th March 2018. It was registered at the Film Writers Association.
Commenting on the situation, Sanober said “When I saw the promo of the said show I was in shock. I have been in touch with Abhishek Rege from Endemol Shine for a long time and had several meetings about the subject in Hyderabad. He had promised that once the market gets better, we will get going. The show is not only similar to our concept but an absolute copy of the same. I could not believe that somebody could plagiarise the concept to such an extent. We have prayed to the court for infringement of the copyright and have got a stay order.”
It will be interesting to see what is going to be producer Ekta Kapoor’s next move.
Stay tuned for more exciting updates!
