Bhavana Rao, a city-based actor, plays the role of a lawyer in the online series Dharavi Bank, which also stars famous names from Bollywood like Suniel Shetty and Vivek Oberoi. Sounds easy, doesn't it? However, because she comes from a criminal family led by Thalaivan and portrayed by Shetty, the story is turned on its head.

Rao called it a dream project to be making her debut in the Hindi cinema industry, with a potent narrative and a strong star cast. Rao reflects on the period when she applied for it and claims the narrative chose her.

BHAVANA RAO SHARED HER EXPERIENCE WORKING IN DHARAVI BANK

“During the second lockdown, this occurred. I recorded my part after receiving a few scripts from a casting agency to act out. I had tried auditioning earlier as well, but nothing was working out. When I got the call for this show, I was in shock.” Rao says.

"I was growing restless. I started working on my trade as a diversion. I would choose a moment from a recently released movie or web series and reenact it in my own unique way. They most likely appreciate your sincerity,” she says.

Rao plays the part of Shetty's daughter in the show. “I have a limited number of moments with him in Season 1, but I'm hoping for more in Season 2. He was there on the first day I went shooting. Everyone kept asking me if I was nervous, but since I knew exactly what I had to do, I wasn't.” So, she continues, "I believe that clarity brought me confidence.”

She doesn't have many scenes with Shetty, but she still treasures the time they did have together. “I was talking to him all the time. He responded that he makes at least one annual trip to his ancestral home when I asked him if he visits Mangaluru. While we were filming, Tadap, a movie starring his son, was released. He would look up the movie online and present it to us like a proud father, completely forgetting that he is such a big star himself," she laughs.

Rao, who works in the Kannada and Tamil film industries, observes significant differences between Bollywood and the southern sectors.

"The Hindi industry moves really quickly. I used to make fun of my director Samit Kakkad for never needing a break or going hungry. Everything in southern businesses is so carefully thought out. We take a lunch break or a break for evening refreshments at 1:30. In contrast to Hindi film sets, where they start late and finish late, we generally get started early. The morals at work, though, remain the same. Everyone wants to produce quality work, and this is true in both businesses,” she continues. She currently has two Sandalwood movies scheduled for release.

She adds, "In Hindi, they are now taking notice of me; hopefully, I am going to get a good job.”
