25 years after Khamoshi, Manisha Koirala to star in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Heeramandi
In filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s directorial debut Khamoshi: The Musical (1996), Manisha Koirala delivered a heart-winning performance opposite Salman Khan who played the role of Raj in the film. Now after 25 years, Manisha Koirala and Sanjay Leela Bhansali are coming together again for their new costume drama Heeramandi which will be exclusively produced for Netflix.
Heeramandi is a story of a gallery of gorgeous prostitutes whose destinies are intertwined. Some of the top heroines of the industry, like Huma Qureshi and Sonakshi Sinha, will be seen working together for the first time in the upcoming series.
Bhansali has completed the shooting of his directorial Gangubai Kathiawadi, and now he is fully invested in the pre-production of Heeramandi. The shooting will start in two months, if reports are to be believed.
A source who is close to the project said, “Heeramandi will have 7 episodes of one hour each in the first season in 2022. The first episode is being directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali himself. He may also direct the second episode. While the closing episode will also be directed by Bhansali, the rest of the episodes will be directed by Vibhu Puri who was an assistant to the filmmaker.”
