Ahead of the World Theatre Day on March 27, popular television actor Vijayendra Kumeria has said that all actors should be treated equally irrespective of the medium they work for. There is a perception that theatre actors are better than actors who work in films or television, but Kumeria feels that this might not always be true.

“I directly faced the camera for a TV show. Theatre is just a different medium of acting, you can’t say that they are better than actors of other mediums. For me, an actor is an actor. To each his own, it is about interest. Some people enjoy doing it, some don’t. There cannot be a specific reason why people are not inclined towards it,” he told a publication.

The growth of streaming platforms as well as the coronavirus pandemic heavily impacted the theatre industry. Kumeria is hopeful that people who like to watch plays will definitely go back to theatres in times to come. “People who like to watch theatre will definitely resume going back to watch plays, it’s a matter of time,” he concluded.
