Ankit Gupta, who presently essays the character of Fateh Singh Virk on Colors’ hit show Udaariyaan, says that it is completely unfair to judge an actor on the basis of his social media followers. His statement makes so much sense in a time when casting directors are cashing influencers to cast them in roles which probably should go to talented actors who can do full justice to them. But since some influencers boast of more followers and better social media presence than those actors who spent years honing their acting skills, they get preference and walk away with good roles.

When a publication asked Ankit Gupta to share his opinion on how Instagram or other social media platforms, for that matter, have become more important for actors, the actor said, “Well, I am honestly not a social media person but we got to be present for the show and stay active. If it was for me, then I would surely go off social media and just focus on my work.”

Gupta, who made his acting debut almost a decade ago with Colors Balika Vadhu, further added, “These days I have seen that actors are being selected based on the criteria of how active they are on social media, the number of followers they have. I feel it is not fair. How can you judge someone’s skills based on their social media handle? It is unfair to a lot of great actors. Had it been up to me, then I would have just banished social media.”

We love the actor for expressing his opinion so fiercely and calling a spade a spade. We hope his statement knocks some sense into the heads of casting directors and they start prioritising talent over social media followers.
