After a post-mortem indicated that Sonali Phogat's body had "many blunt force injuries," the Goa Police detained two of her aides on Thursday for their alleged participation in her murder. When Phogat (42) passed away on August 23 in Goa, it was initially believed that she suffered a heart attack.
After being questioned for hours, Sudhir Sangwan, Phogat's personal assistant, and Sukhwinder Wasi, a friend, were both arrested in the late afternoon.
On the basis of her brother Rinku Dhaka's accusation, Sangwan and Wasi, who had travelled with Phogat when she arrived in Goa on August 22, had previously been designated as suspects in the murder case. The Goa Police has received a complaint from Rinku saying that his sister was raped and killed by her personal assistant and his friend.
Sonali Phogat had spoken to her mother, sister, and brother-in-law a few before her death, according to Rinku. He said that she had chosen to file complaints against them. He stated she "sounded disturbed" and expressed her concerns about her assistants.
On Tuesday morning, Sonali Phogat, 43, was pronounced dead at the St Anthony Hospital in Anjuna, North Goa. Initial claims that she had died of a heart attack were disputed by her family.
BJP candidate Sonali Phogat, who became popular for her TikTok videos, ran in the 2019 Haryana election but lost to then-Congress politician Kuldeep Bishnoi (he has since joined the BJP). In 2020, she also made an appearance on the reality show Bigg Boss.
