Anupam Mittal is not a new name to Shark Tank India watchers. The reality show, which was introduced in 2020 and quickly rose up the TRP rankings, was inspired by the American reality television series Shark Tank. Young entrepreneurs that attended Shark Tank India and spoke about their start-ups amazed the viewers. But several controversies also arose as a result of the popularity. Many pitchers claimed that the 'Sharks' had not given them the money they had promised. Anupam Mittal has finally spoken out in response to the accusations.

Anupam Mittal, the creator of the matrimony website Shaadi.com and one of the Shark Tank India judges, recently posted a lengthy statement on LinkedIn in which he expressed his ideas on rumours that the programme is scripted. The businessman wrote, recounting the earlier controversies, “First it was ‘Sharks do not invest their own money’, then ‘Oh, the show is scripted’ & then ‘Sharks only fund profitable cos’. In every case, it’s not hard to spot a predetermined, ill-intentioned narrative with no data or sources to back said claims.”

Anupam Mittal’s Post:

Anupam Mittal elaborated on the reasons why some commercial transactions fail by listing several of them. After the legalities are completed, he noted, a deal can be deemed complete in 3 to 6 months. But he continued, “sometimes deals don’t go through because the founder changes their mind, the company fails legal, financial and/or tax diligence OR the founders do not meet the obligations agreed to while accepting a ‘conditional deal.”

Anupam Mittal called Shark Tank India a "powerful force for democratising Indian entrepreneurship" and urged detractors to quit accusing one another of being scripted and casting blame based on "loose anecdotes and 'expert' opinions." Instead, the business tycoon suggested that they obtain accurate information and confirm the facts before criticising the show. Anupam Mittal additionally asked discouraged pitchers to speak up and express their complaints in order to resolve the fund-related problems.
