Munmun Dutta, who is popularly known as Babita Ji from Sab TV’s popular show Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, was interrogated for four hours for usage of the casteist slur in her 2021 video.

Last year, Munmun used a casteist slur in one of her YouTube videos. She said, "I am coming on YouTube and I want to look good. I do not want to look like a bhangi.”

The controversial statement immediately made headlines, and Munmun got heavily trolled due to it. Many tweets including the hashtag #arrestMunmunDutta started trending.

Later, she issued an apology in which she stated that she was misinformed about the meaning of the word and that she sincerely would like to apologise to every single person who has been unintentionally hurt by the usage of the word.

On Monday, Munmun appeared before investigating officer DSP Vinod Shankar in Hisar in a case registered under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. She came with her lawyer and security.

After four hours of interrogation, she was released on interim bail granted by the Punjab and Haryana high courts.

She avoided the media both times she walked in and out of the DSP’s office.
