Actor Vijay Sethupathi received the Best Actor Award at the Indo-French International Film Festival for his work in the universally praised Tamil entertainer Maamanithan (2022), directed by Seenu Ramasamy. The movie also took home the Best Picture award.
Director Seenu Ramasamy made the announcement on Twitter, writing, "Congratulations Vijay Sethupathi for Best Actor and Yuvan Shankar Raja for Best Picture. Thank you Indo-French International Film Festival."
It's interesting to note that renowned director Shankar referred to the film as a "realistic masterpiece" when it received widespread acclaim shortly after its debut. Vijay Sethupathi's outstanding performance in the film, in Shankar's words, merited a National Award.
The movie recently received a Gold award at the Tokyo Film Awards this year. At the Tokyo Film Awards, Maamanithan took home the gold medal for best Asian film, followed by Takahiro Kawabe's Love Song at 5 pm for silver, and Mart Bira's Nomadic Doctor for bronze.
The protagonist of Maamanithan is a straightforward father who longs to provide his kids a solid education by enrolling them in a private school. He makes a contract with a real estate developer to improve his income but is duped in the process. The focus of the movie is on the issues he encounters.
