It has not been long since Tamil superstar Vijay sparked a controversy when he sought tax exemption for his imported Rolls Royce car. The actor is in hot water again due to his imported luxurious car worth ₹63 crores which was imported from the US in 2005.
The commercial tax department of the Tamil Nadu government has ordered the actor to pay the entrance tax for the luxurious car. A case was filed in the Madras High Court on behalf of Vijay seeking tax dismissal.
In September 2021, ₹7,98,075 was paid on behalf of Vijay after the High Court ruled that the states have the power to collect the entry tax. Later in December 2021, the Commercial Tax Department asked for a fine of ₹30, 23, 609 for the interim period of non-payment of tax (December 2005 to September 2021).
The court heard the case yesterday, and Vijay’s lawyer claimed that his client was being fined 400 percent instead of 2 percent per month from the time the car was imported. But the Commercial Tax Department has requested the court to dismiss the case and to impose a fine for the delay in the payment of tax.
On the work front, Vijay is waiting for the release of his next film Beast, co-starring Pooja Hegde.
