Lokesh Kanagaraj has risen to prominence not just in Tamil films but throughout the country. Following the success of his most recent film, Leo, which starred Thalapathy Vijay, the filmmaker is preparing for his next project, which will star Rajinikanth.
The film, provisionally named ‘Thalaivar 171’, is set to begin production in March or April 2024. According to the most recent information, actor Raghava Lawrence is in discussions to play the antagonist in the future film.

Lokesh Kanagaraj's sixth film, ‘Thalaivar 171’, will be his first collaboration with Rajinikanth. The film is believed to be a stand-alone with no ties to the Lokesh Cinematic Universe, or LCU for short. According to rumours, the director recently announced that he would be taking a six-month hiatus from social media to work on the next film.
‘Thalaivar 171’ is set to be a stylish action thriller directed by Kalanithi Maran and produced by Sun Pictures. Anirudh Ravichander will compose the film's music, while stunt pair Anbariv Masters will direct the action sequences.
Rajinikanth's next appearance will be in the forthcoming film Lal Salaam, directed by his daughter, Aishwarya Rajinikanth. The lead actors in the film are Vishnu Vishal and Vikranth. He's also in TJ Gnanavel's forthcoming film, tentatively named ‘Thalaivar 170’. Apart from the Petta actor, the film stars Amitabh Bachchan, Fahadh Faasil, Manju Warrier, Dushara Vijayan, Rana Daggubati, and Ritika Singh in an ensemble cast.
Raghava Lawrence was most recently seen in Chandramukhi 2, a solo sequel to the 2005 film directed by P. Vasu and starring Rajinikanth. He will soon be featured in ‘Jigarthanda Double X’, directed by Karthik Subbaraj, with SJ Suryah. The film will be released on November 10th.
