While Tamil films had a reasonably successful year in 2022 with national hits like Ponniyin Selvan 1 and Vikram, it also had a number of flops. On top of that, despite their commercial success, several of the most anticipated movies starring famous people ended up being duds.
Here is a collection of movies that left us disappointed as we left theatres:
Kuruthi Aattam
A low-key criminal drama titled 8 Thottakal by director Sri Ganesh helped him establish himself as one of the year's promising directors. His sophomore movie, which fans and reviewers had been waiting for approximately four years, had finally been released. Although it had a good plot, the bad execution and subpar editing made this Atharvaa-starring film a tremendous letdown.
Kaathuvaakula Rendu Kaadhal
What a chance Vignesh Shivan had in this situation. Vijay Sethupathi, Nayanthara, and Samantha Ruth Prabhu, three well-known actors from south Indian films, were all present. However, the director's erratic writing resulted in a movie that was swiftly forgotten. Vignesh ended up creating a huge mess that was disorganized in his attempt to create a classic love triangle scenario.
Coffee With Kadhal
Sundar C, the director of Coffee With Kadhal, is a legendary figure in Tamil films of the 1990s who has continued to work today. One anticipated the thoughtless pleasure the director is known for to return with Coffee With Kadhal, which reunited the cast of Kalakalappu 2. It turned out to be one of the director's most uninspired and lazy movies.
Cobra
Cobra took Vikram and director Ajay Gnanamuthu years to complete, which may be the cause of the film's abject failure. Fans were more perplexed than dissatisfied by the visual riddle Cobra was because the movie was an overwritten and bloated mess.
Beast
Unsatisfactory fan service According to the book, Nelson Dilipkumar should have envisaged a safe, sleek action movie that would capitalize on the charismatic presence of Vijay, the main hero. But Beast turned out to be a good premise without the flesh to make the heroism work—it was just a skeleton of a movie. The main issue with Beast was how uninteresting it was from beginning to end, with even its peak points failing to inspire cheers from viewers.
