Trisha, who most recently starred in the Tamil political thriller Paramapadham Vilayattu (2021), is currently working on a few projects. She is geared up for the September 30 and October 7 theatrical debuts of her upcoming movies Ponniyin Selvan: Part One and Sathuranga Vettai 2, respectively. While Trisha is presently preoccupied with filming for the Tamil film The Road and the Malayalam movie Ram: Part One, rumours are rife that she will soon make her much anticipated foray into politics.

Reports indicate that Trisha is prepared to join the Congress party. Furthermore, it's been said that Thalapathy Vijay has been encouraging the 96 (2018) actress to enter politics. Trisha, however, has not yet made an official declaration about it.

Ponniyin Selvan: Part One, filmmaker Mani Ratnam's much-discussed magnum opus, will shortly feature Trisha in the role of Kundavai Pirattiyar. The epic historical drama will feature the 39-year-old actress as Emperor Sundara Chola's daughter and Vallaraiyan's love interest. Ponniyin Selvan: Part One, a movie billed as being pan-Indian, will be released simultaneously in the languages of Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Tamil, and Telugu.

In addition to Trisha, the film also prominently features Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Prakash Raj, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sobhita Dhulipala, Jayaram, Rahman, R. Parthiban, and Prabhu.
