Kamal Haasan and Mani Ratnam revealed earlier this year that they will be reuniting for the first time in 36 years for a new project. On November 6th, the filmmakers unveiled the title of the film, ‘Thug Life’, as well as further character and crew information.
The filmmakers announced on social media that Trisha Krishnan, Jayam Ravi, and Dulquer Salmaan will play important parts in the next film. However, according to 123Telugu, Dulquer Salmaan was not the initial option for the role. According to accounts, the job was first offered to Silambarasan TR, called Simbu. However, because to prior obligations, the ‘Maanaadu’ actor had to decline the part. Dulquer Salmaan is also said to be playing the part of a District Collector in the next film.

‘Thug Life’ is Kamal Haasan and Mani Ratnam's second collaboration, following the 1987 film ‘Naayakan’. On November 6th, the creators released a title reveal video, along with which it was announced that Kamal Haasan's character is titled Rangaraya Shakthivel Nayakar. Thug Life appears to be a gangster action thriller based on the title reveal video.
‘Thug Life’ is produced by Kamal Haasan and Mani Ratnam through their respective production companies, Raaj Kamal Films International and Madras Talkies. AR Rahman composed the soundtrack for the film. Additionally, legendary cinematographer Ravi K Chandran handled the film's photography, while Sreekar Prasad handled the editing department. It was also stated that the stunt scenes will be directed by Anbariv, an action pair.
Dulquer Salmaan was most recently seen in Malayalam gangster thriller ‘King of Kotha’. Abhilash Joshiy's film garnered mixed reviews from reviewers and spectators alike. In addition to ‘Thug Life’, the actor will appear in ‘Purananooru’, a film directed by Sudha Kongara and starring Suriya. According to rumours, Dulquer will also appear in Venky Atluri's forthcoming Telugu film, ‘Lucky Bhaskar’.
