Nikhil Siddhartha’s Karthikeya 2 defeats Aamir Khan’s Laal Singh Chaddha at the box office; Is the boycott trend really affecting Bollywood film’s revenue?

Laal Singh Chaddha, starring Aamir Khan, was one of the most eagerly awaited movies of 2022. After receiving "not so great reviews" upon release, the movie was quickly written off as a box office failure. At the theatres, the movie competed with Akshay Kumar's Raksha BandhanKarthikeya 2 crushes Aamir Khan’s Laal Singh Chaddha and Akshay Kumar’s Raksha Bandhan’s box office collection., but both are declared flops. Now, on August 13, Nikhil Siddhartha's Karthikeya 2 was released, and it quickly devoured Laal Singh Chaddha's revenue. On Tuesday, the Telugu movie brought in more money than the Aamir movie did.

Telugu movie Karthikeya 2 has been generating waves in the entertainment industry. Hindi is one of the many languages it has been dubbed into. The Hindi dubbed version premiered on a very small number of screens, but as moviegoers demanded to see it, the screens multiplied, and day by day the box office climbed. Karthikeya 2 has resonated with the audience; it was given more than 600 screens on Day 1 but thanks to positive word-of-mouth, the screens have increased to more than 2000 by Friday. By consistently outperforming blockbusters like Laal Singh Chaddha and Raksha Bandhan at the box office, the small movie is succeeding like Kashmir Files.

The 2014 successful movie Karthikeya has a stand-alone sequel titled Karthikeya. Nikhil Siddhartha, Anupama Parameswaran, Anupam Kher, Srinivasa Reddy, and Adithya Menon are a few of the actors in the cast. Producing partners TG Vishwa Prasad and Abhishek Agarwal are behind Karthikeya 2.

Laal Singh Chaddha, directed by Advait Chandan, is the authorized remake of the Tom Hanks-starring Forrest Gump movie from Hollywood. Kareena Kapoor Khan, Naga Chaitanya, and Mona Singh play major parts in the Hindi adaptation. Laal Singh Chaddha garnered media attention even before it was released as a result of numerous controversies. Because of comments made by Aamir and Kareena in the past, internet users called for a boycott of the movie.
