Malayalam superstar Mammootty on Sunday announced that he has tested positive for COVID-19 and is currently under home quarantine.
Known for delivering a number of successful films in his 5-decade-long storied career, the 70-year-old actor said he contracted the virus despite taking all the necessary precautions. He added that he is doing fine.
Mammootty was reportedly filming his next film CBI 5, directed by K. Madhu, when he tested positive for the virus. The superstar took to Twitter to update his fans about his health.
“Despite taking all the necessary precautions, I have tested Covid positive yesterday. Besides a light fever I am otherwise fine. I am self-isolating at home as per the directions of the concerned authorities,” Mammootty wrote. “I wish for all of you to stay safe. Mask at all times and take care,” he added.

Last seen in the political drama One (2021), Mammootty has several exciting projects in the pipeline. Some of his upcoming films include gangster drama Bheeshma Parvam, directed by Amal Neerad, crime thriller Puzhu, and Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam. While Puzhu marks the directorial debut of Ratheena PT, Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam is directed by Lijo Jose Pellissery.
The superstar has also announced the sequel to his 2007 film Big B, titled Bilal.
