The Lucifer sequel that actor-director Prithviraj was planning for his following picture is now set to go into production. On Wednesday, the actor posted a picture of himself with the main cast of the film, titled Empuraan. The picture, which also includes the film's star Mohanlal, director Antony Perumbavoor, and writer Murali Gopy, is captioned "#L2E. Team" by Prithviraj.

Mohanlal, Vivek Oberoi, and Manju Warrier were the main characters in Prithviraj's first film, Lucifer. Blockbuster success was achieved by Lucifer. Prithviraj and Mohanlal have been discussing the sequel to Lucifer for a number of months. Prior to his departure for a protracted shoot schedule in another country, Mohanlal and Prithviraj would meet to finalize the project's details. After Lucifer became a major commercial success in 2019, Empuraan was announced. The movie broke the 200-crore crore rupee box office barrier, becoming the first in Malayalam cinema history to do so. Although the pandemic outbreak caused a production delay, the filmmakers wasted no time in seizing the chance to broaden the Lucifer universe.

The tumultuous politics of Kerala served as the setting for the political thriller Lucifer. In addition to Tovino Thomas, Indrajith Sukumaran, and Saniya Iyappan, Prithviraj made a cameo appearance in the movie. Lucifer is the first installment in the trilogy.
