Kamal Haasan and Mani Ratnam are two of the world's most renowned Indian filmmakers, revered for their expertise and the exquisite films they create.
After more than 36 years since their previous collaboration, the actor-director duo, who have worked together for decades in the film business, are now collaborating again after ‘Nayakan’. The film, provisionally named 'KH 234', celebrates the start of their trip with a unique video released today, revealing the main personnel engaged with the project.

The film's producers posted the unique video to their official Instagram account with the message "Begin the Begin and May the Journey Unfold." The video began with a scene from the 1987 film ‘Naykan’ in which former actor Pradeep Shakthi's character asks former actor Kamal Haasan's Velu Naicker whether he wanted to strike him.
Velu Naicker responds with the legendary blood-splattered speech, "Naan adicha nee sethuruve," which translates as "If I beat you up, you'll die." The video then cuts to the present, showing Kamal Haasan and Mani Ratnam with the film's main team, with an ascending background soundtrack by AR Rahman.
Their earlier collaboration, ‘Nayakan’, is still highly regarded in contemporary pop culture and the history of Indian film. 'The Godfather', directed by Francis Ford Coppola, is thought to have inspired the film. The film was even included in a 2005 version of TIME magazine's list of the "All-Time 100 Best Films." ‘Dayavan’, a 1988 Hindi adaptation of the film, starred Vinod Khanna, Feroz Khan, and Madhuri Dixit.
The return of this renowned partnership to the big screen creates a lot of excitement and expectations, especially given the legacy they left last time.
‘KH 234’, written and directed by Mani Ratnam, is being produced by Kamal Haasan's Raaj Kamal Films International, Mani Ratnam's Madras Talkies, and Red Giant Movies.
AR Rahman composes for a Kamal Haasan film for the first time in 23 years, having previously worked on the film ‘Thenali’. The film's cinematography will be handled by Ravi K Chandran, editing by Sreekar Prasad, and action choreography by the Anbariv team.
