Shaakuntalam, Samantha's upcoming mythological film, is one of Tollywood's most eagerly awaited releases. In the movie, she appears as an angelic avatar who is the talk of the town for all the right reasons. Although the film's production was completed a long time ago, the creators have not provided any updates in a very long time. Growing apprehension about the movie may indicate how eager fans are awaiting it, but it has also given rise to rumours that Samantha may not be content with Shaakuntalam.

Neelima Guna, the film's producer, has, however, put all rumours to rest. Neelima claimed on Twitter that everything is going according to plan for the movie. The post-production process, she continued, is the cause of the film's relative stillness, and more hints and details will emerge over time. She shared a note which read, “This is to all the fans who've been tweeting asking for updates on Shakuntalam. The post-production work is going on at a brisk pace, the challenging CG complexities are being dealt with good precision as we prepare to give you a good quality product. Hence the time. At this crucial juncture, the team deserves your support and understanding, which I'm sure you will shower on us! We will put out more content and updates as and when we can. Thank you for your love."

In the film, Samantha will play Shakuntala, and Dev will play Dushyant. Producer of Shakuntalam Neelima Guna has revealed that Kabir Duhan Singh will play the antagonist. King Asura will be portrayed by Kabir. Meanwhile, Samantha will be next seen in the science fiction-thriller film Yashoda. The film also stars Unni Mukundan and Varalaxmi Sarathkumar in pivotal roles and is slated to hit the theatres on August 12.
