The ongoing dispute between Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) and actor Suriya has resurfaced. Vijayvarman, the party's student union's Cuddalore district secretary, has sent a letter to the district's Theatre Owners' Association, requesting that the Soorarai Pottru (2020) actor's films not be screened. The PMK leader's letter arrives only days before the debut of Suriya's film Etharkkum Thunindhavan, also known as 'ET,' which is set to enter theatres on March 10.

Vijayavarman, state secretary of the PMK student union, has written to the Theatre Owners' Association, requesting that Suriya's films not be screened. The letter reaffirms the party's objection to Suriya's Jai Bhim, directed by TJ Gnanavel and produced by 2D Entertainment, released in 2021. The PMK cadres and leaders took issue with the way the Vanniyar community was portrayed in the film, Jai Bhim, which is based on a true incident, and stated that there was an attempt to discredit the party.

When Jai Bhim was released on November 1st, the Vaniyyar community in Tamil Nadu reacted negatively. They said the film portrays them negatively and is tainted by inaccurate claims about the community.
