Actor-producer Komal Unawnay on Tuesday announced that she has obtained the official rights of the award-winning Kannada film RangiTaranga (2015) for a Hindi remake. Written and directed by Anup Bhandari, the mystery thriller was one of the most successful films of 2015 that went on to bag several awards and accolades. It starred debutants Nirup Bhandari, Radhika Chetan, and Avantika Shetty, and Saikumar in the lead roles.
RangiTaranga revolves around a novelist (Bhandari) and his wife, Indhu (Chetan), who decide to visit her ancestral house after she experiences a series of nightmares. Little did they know that their sudden visit will reveal a mystery about Gautam’s forgotten past.
Komal Unawnay has previously produced such notable Marathi films as One Way Ticket (2018) and Bicycle Boys (2018). The actor-producer said that she fell in love with the plot when writer-filmmaker Lucky Hansraj narrated the story to her.
“This will be a trend changer in horror mystery (genre),” she said in a statement.
Unawnay also said that the team will soon announce the cast of the upcoming film. The remake will mount the shooting floor very soon, as the team is currently busy recceing the locations.
“We will be releasing it next year. We have already started pre-production, also location recce is going on,” she added.
RangiTaranga was made on a shoestring budget of ₹3.5 crore, but it went on to perform phenomenally well at the cash counter and ended its box office run after minting approximately ₹21.3 crores domestically.
