Award-winning actor Kamal Haasan and filmmaker Shankar have announced Indian 2 over the weekend. Both the cine heavyweights will reunite after two decades for the sequel to their 1996 Tamil film Indian, which is still considered one of the best films of their respective careers. Indian 2 will mount floors early next year as Kamal Haasan will first wrap up Tamil comedy Sabash Naidu.

To be made in Tamil and Telugu, Indian 2 might be dubbed in Hindi as its predecessor, Indian, was released in Hindi as Hindustani. Also starring Manisha Koirala and Urmila Matondkar , the film walked away with three National awards including the best actor honour for Haasan. There is no update on who will play the female lead in Indian 2.

However, the film is expected to be shot on a big scale. While Indian saw Kamal Haasan in a double role - as a 70-year-old freedom fighter-turned-vigilante against corruption and his son who ends up bending the rules - there is no info about his role in Indian 2.

The film will be produced by Dil Raju.
