Tiger Zinda Hai vs Dangal: Will Salman Khan’s film beat Aamir Khan’s ‘Dangal’ to become the highest grossing film of Bollywood?

At the domestic box office, Tiger is roaring louder than trade pundits had thought before the release of the film. Within three days of its release, the Salman Khan starrer has toppled an array of box office records and is on its way to emerging as one of the biggest Hindi entertainers of Bollywood. With a whopping weekend collection of Rs114.93 crore, the movie has already become the highest opener of 2017 among Hindi films, breaking the highest opening weekend collection of Khan’s own films Sultan and Prem Ratan Dhan Payo . The terrific performance of Tiger Zinda Hai makes every film enthusiast wonder if the Ali Abbas Zafar directorial will surpass the lifetime collection of Aamir Khan ’s Dangal , which still remains the most successful film of Hindi cinema. Let us have a close look at the pace at which Tiger Zinda Hai is moving ahead at the box office and compare it with Dangal ’s performance.

Dangal , which hit screens on 23 December 2016, had received an overwhelming response and opened to Rs 29.78 crore collections. Whereas, Salman Khan ’s Tiger Zinda Hai , which arrived in theatres on 22nd December 2017, made a humongous earning of Rs. 34.10 crore. Showing an unprecedented growth, Dangal had clocked Rs 34.82 crore on its second day, whereas Tiger Zinda Hai made Rs. 35.30 crore on its first Saturday. Sunday is always a money spinner day for every good film. Nitesh Tiwari ’s Dangal had proved it by earning around Rs. 42.35 crore on its third day. Tiger Zinda Hai , on the other hand, minted a whopping Rs. 45.53 crore on the last day of the week. Now, compare the first-weekend collection of both the films. Dangal had pocketed Rs. 107.01 crore over the weekend, whereas Salman Khan’s movie shattered this record of Aamir Khan ’s film with ease by making a massive collection of Rs. 114.93 crore approximately.

This brings us to the conclusion that Salman Khan ’s Tiger Zinda Hai , the last big Bollywood release of the year, is racing ahead than Aamir Khan ’s Dangal . If Salman Khan ’s film maintains its pace in the coming days as well, it will be a cakewalk for the film to touch and cross the magical figure of 387.39 crore. No big film is releasing before 12th January, which means that Tiger Zinda Hai has an open field to play.
