    Taapsee Pannu to essay social activist Irom Sharmila in Imphal

    Taapsee Pannu will be seen essaying the role of social activist Irom Sharmila in upcoming film Imphal.

    A woman was on strong hunger strike for more than 16 years owing to the political unrest in the seven sisters of North East India. Irom Sharmila fought for her state's benefit by going on the world's largest hunger strike. She became the known name among the people and very soon, the life of this social activist will be seen on the big screen. Taapsee Pannu will be seen portraying the role of Irom Sharmila in this upcoming flick, reportedly.

    The movie tentatively titled Imphal, is presented by Hansal Mehta and is likely to be helmed by a new director. The script is being worked upon by the makers and the details of this biopic are being locked. Hansal Mehta has earlier directed the films like Aligarh and Shahid. The film Aligarh has won the awards at various film festivals.
