After Padmavati, Shahid Kapoor will next resume his upcoming film Batti Gul Meter Chalu . The film is written and directed by the makers of Toilet: Ek Prem Katha. The said film was tentatively titled Roshni before the final name which is ‘ Batti Gul Meter Chalu ’. The story narrates a social message of how electricity can be made available to one and all and the issue about the rising electricity bills in India. The movie has been scheduled to release on 31st Aug 2018.

In a media statement, director Shree Narayan Singh said, "The subject of the film is very relevant to our times. Diwali makes it just the right occasion for us to shed light on a subject that needs to be discussed. We look forward to making a film that is both commercially entertaining and encourages a social conversation."

Due to large numbers of movies being made, there is always a race to get a better release date which is preferably a holiday. Almost 2018 slot is booked with so many lucrative films. Hence, the makers of Shahid’s next have booked the Janmashtami slot for the film. Batti Gul Meter Chalu is produced by T-Series and KriArj Entertainment . It is conceptualized by Vipul Rawal while the story, screenplay, and dialogues have been written by Garima and Siddharth.

The makers had released the teaser of the film during Diwali, this year. Shahid Kapoor tweeted it saying: “Let's celebrate the festival of light with the wish that soon electricity will be a right and not a privilege for all.”
