Mark your calendars; almost every upcoming festival of 2018 has a big Bollywood release!
As Pari is coming out on Holi, many Bollywood celebrities have locked the big festival dates to release their films.
Bollywood actors have always been fascinated by the Indian festivals. Biggies like Shah Rukh, Salman and Aamir have constantly released their films on one or the other big festive occasion. While Khans are using this mantra for ages, many other B-town celebs have thought to give a try to this formula. So the festivals of 2018 will not only see the release of Khans but it will also have many more films of other stars as well.
Let us take a look at the list of the upcoming films which are scheduled to release on some of the biggest festivals of 2018.
‘Holi’ - 02nd March: Pari and Veere Ki Wedding: The festival of colors, Holi, will see two of the most extreme opposite films on the same day. The first film, Pari , is an Anushka Sharma starrer horror thriller. In the last 10 years, no horror film has released on Holi.
The other film is Veere Ki Wedding, which stars Pulkit Samrat, Jimmy Shergill and Kriti Kharbanda in pivotal roles. The film is a light hearted romantic comedy.
‘Tamil New Year’ - 14th April: October (13th April): The month of April is itself a holiday month. As the summer starts, Schools and colleges gets a vacation for full-fledged 2 months. October stars Varun Dhawan and Banita Sandhu and it is directed by Shoojit Sircar. Though the romantic flick is coming out on 13th April, it can be considered as a holiday release.
‘Eid’ - 15th June: Race 3 and Fanne Khan: When it’s the festival of Eid then only one superstar releases its film and he is none other than megastar Salman Khan . Bhai is releasing his films on Eid since years and he is coming this year as well with Race 3 . Helmed by Remo D’Souza, Race 3 is a multi-starrer and a complete action thriller.
The other film reportedly coming out on the same day is Fanne Khan. The film stars Anil Kapoor, Rajkummar Rao and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in lead roles and it’s a unique story by KriArj Entertainment.
‘Independence Day’ - 15th August: Gold: Well, if it’s a National holiday then no doubts the day is booked by Akshay Kumar . Unlike Khans, Khiladi Kumar has taken National holiday slots and releases his film on the respective dates (26th January and 15th August). This Independence Day, Kumar is coming up with a period drama, Gold , which focuses on India’s first Gold medal in Olympics as a free nation.
‘Onam’ - 24th August: Happy Phir Bhag Jayegi and Genius: Though Onam is touted to be the festival of the South, Indians just need an occasion to celebrate it. On this festive occasion, the first film which will come out is Sonakshi Sinha and Diana Penty starrer Happy Phir Bhag Jayegi, the film is an out and out comedy-drama and a sequel to 2016’s film Happy Bhag Jayegi.
The other film is Genius, which marks the debut of Utkarsh Sharma. The film will be a love story but with an unconventional turn. The film is being made on high tech technology and also stars Nawazuddin Siddiqui.
‘Ganesh Chaturthi’ - 13th September: Arjun Patiala: One of the biggest festivals of India is Ganesh Chaturthi. The festival runs for 11 long days and Indians (devotees) don’t miss celebrating this festival at any cost. While the festival brings joy, happiness and cheerfulness, to double the fun, Punjabi sensation, Diljit Dosanjh is bringing Arjun Patiala on the same day. The film will be a comedy drama and also stars Kriti Sanon and Varun Sharma.
‘Gandhi Jayanti’ - 02nd October: Pal Pal Dil Ke Paas: Gandhi Jayanti is one of the few occasions which is celebrated with utmost peace. Well, we don’t have to tell you the reason. This festival leave will not see any big movies but it will mark the debut of Karan Deol, son of Sunny Deol. That’s right! Sunny is not launching his son through his film Pal Pal Dil Ke Paas but he has also turned director for the same.
‘Dussehra’ - 19th October: Junglee and Ajay Devgn and Rakul Preet Singh’s untitled film: The Dussehra festival is booked by Vidyut Jammwal and his international team for his upcoming film, Junglee. The film is helmed by an American director, Chuck Russell and will be an action thriller.
The other movie which might come out on Dussehra is Ajay Devgn and Rakul Preet Singh’s untitled film. The film will be helmed by Luv Ranjan and all the further details are kept under wraps.
‘Diwali’ - 07th November: Thugs Of Hindostan: When it’s the biggest festival, the film releasing on the same date should also be the biggest one. Well, that’s happening! On the occasion of Diwali, Mr. Perfectionist is bringing his much-awaited film, Thugs Of Hindostan . The film is made on a lavish budget of Rs. 250 crores and will be an adventure thriller. It also stars Amitabh Bachchan, Katrina Kaif and Fatima Sana Shaikh.
‘Christmas’ (The whole week): Zero, Kedarnath, The Accidental Prime Minister and Simmba: Christmas is a global festival and no matter who you are, you feel like celebrating it. Interestingly none of the above mentioned films are releasing on 25th December, but all are coming out on the Christmas week.
Though Christmas falls on 25th, the celebration and vacation start from a week prior. So, taking the advantage of the festive leave, Shah Rukh Khan is coming out with his biggest project, Zero , on 21st December, which is going to be the most advanced film ever. The film also stars Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma .
Sara Ali Khan and Sushant Singh Rajput’s Kedarnath is also coming out on the same date but it is reported that their film might get postponed or preponed.
Another film which is touted to come out on 21st December is Anupam Kher starrer The Accidental Prime Minister. The film will be a biographical drama, revolving around the life of Ex-Prime Minister of India, Dr Manmohan Singh.
The last film of the year, which will come out on Christmas week is Ranveer Singh starrer, Simmba. Helmed by Rohit Shetty, the makers of the film have announced the release date of their film months back and if shooting gets completed on time, it will surely come out on 28th December 2018.
