Soon after ‘Arjun Reddy’ became a blockbuster hit in the Telugu film industry, filmmakers from Bollywood wanted to make a Hindi remake of it. And a few weeks ago, producers Murad Khetani and Ashwin Varde of Cine1 Studios even purchased the Hindi remake rights of the movie. It was decided that Sandeep Vanga, who helmed the original film, will direct the Hindi remake. But now, it looks like Sandeep has backed out from directing the film. When Sandeep was asked to helm this film, he had Shahid Kapoor in his mind, but at the project shaped up, the makers decided to cast Arjun Kapoor as the main lead, which Sandeep doesn’t want. “I had all but finalized Shahid Kapoor for the Hindi remake of Arjun Reddy. We had met and discussed the character and all the details of how it was to be interpreted for a Hindi audience. But my co-producer had other plans,” sighs Vanga.

As the remake rights of the movie have been sold, Vanda has lost the opportunity to work with Shahid. Says Vanga, “I’ve come to know that the remake rights of Arjun Reddy have been sold to in Hindi and the Hindi remake would star Arjun Kapoor . I am caught in a dilemma, as I’ve already locked in Shahid for the role.”

Vanga initially wanted Ranveer Singh to play the role, but when things didn’t work out; he approached Shahid and discussed the remake at length. But when the makers decided to go with Arjun Kapoor , Vanga is just embarrassed. He continued saying, “It’s a very embarrassing situation for me. I don’t know how I’ll face Shahid. I am new to all this. Arjun Reddy was my first film. I don’t know how the casting procedure works in the Hindi or Telugu film industry.”

Well, as an audience, we all can just wait and watch how this situation shapes up. Only time will tell whether Vanga will direct the Hindi remake or not.
