Actress Shraddha Kapoor has been finalized to play the female lead opposite Shahid Kapoor in the forthcoming film, Batti Gul Meter Chalu . Based on the issue of power theft, the social drama film is being helmed by Toilet: Ek Prem Katha director, Shree Narayan Singh . “Shraddha was keen to come onboard because it is a career-defining role. The film is a love story at its core, set in a small town. It is also socially relevant as it highlights the issues of electricity shortage that the common man faces," producer Prernaa Arora confirmed the news to a daily.

It will be the second time when fans will get to see the hit pair of Shahid Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor in a film again. They last played leads in Vishal Bhardwaj 's critically acclaimed film, Haider . Shraddha has beaten actresses Katrina Kaif , Sonakshi Sinha and Vaani Kapoor to bag the film.

Batti Gul Meter Chalu is produced by KriArj Entertainment. It will release on 31st August 2018.

Meanwhile, Shraddha is currently shooting for her multilingual film Saaho with Baahubali star Prabhas . Shahid, on the other hand, is awaiting the release of his next Padmavati .
