After appearing in a number of diverse films, Rajkummar Rao bagged his first international project, 5 Weddings. Directed by Indo-American actor and director, Namrata Singh Gujral, the story follows an American journalist, who travels to India for what she thinks will be an easy magazine feature on Bollywood weddings. As the coverage unfolds so does a colourful mosaic of lost loves, transgender tangles and culture clashes.

The film features Nargis Fakhri as Shania Dhaliwal who plays the female lead.

As this is Rajkummar’s first international film, speaking on the same with a leading daily, he had earlier said, “I feel very fortunate and I think it's a fantastic time for all the actors. Look at Deepika Padukone , Irrfan Khan , Priyanka Chopra ... they all are doing such a fabulous job. I am glad that the West is considering our Indian talent. I am in a happy space right now.”

Talking about his co-star, Nargis, the actor had said, "The role fits really well for her because she will be seen as an Indian girl raised in the US, so I feel it suits her. I am looking forward to work with her.”

Apart from these two actors, the film will have a number of American and Indian actors as well.

5 Weddings will have its world premiere at Cannes Film Festival on May 10 and will be released worldwide on 24th August 2018.
