The filmmaker S.S.Rajamouli was busy with the pre-production work of the film and he confirmed the news update by saying that "We start shooting in mid-December and hope to end by July 2016," The film was supposed to go on floors in November but the delayed pre-production work postponed it to December. The star cast of this sequel will remain the same.

A source said "Since 'Baahubali Returns' was planned simultaneously with the first ' Baahubali - The Beginning ' film, much of the war scenes and some other key sequences have already been shot. Now about 70% of the film remains to be shot with Anushka Shetty , Prabhas and Sathyaraj leading the cast this time,"
