Akshay Kumar to hold an auction for the 'Pad Man' bicycle to raise funds for menstrual hygiene!

For the past few years, actor Akshay Kumar has started doing more of patriotic and social message driven movies. His latest movie, ‘Pad Man’, is also a real-life story of Arunachalam Muruganantham, a man from rural India who made low-cost sanitary napkins for the unprivileged women of his village. Well, Akshay is not only making this noble movie but he has also taken a step further by holding an auction so that he can raise fund for an NGO working for menstrual hygiene. Akshay, with his wife Twinkle Khanna, has held an auction of the bicycle which we can see in the trailer and most songs of the film, and the funds will be distributed to women empowerment NGO called ‘Population First’.

Khiladi Kumar took to his Twitter sharing the details of the auction, he tweeted captioning, “Bid for this #Padman cycle featured in my movie on http://www.bidkartz.com and the proceedings go for supporting women empowerment to "Laadli - a girl child campaign by Population First."

The reason why Akshay and Twinkle chose this NGO was that not only do they work for women’s rights but they also campaign for health and sanitation facilities for females across the country. This also includes spreading awareness about the tabooed topic of menstrual hygiene. Their campaign spreads across 101 villages in rural India. One of their initiatives that work in that direction is the Laadli initiative which will be the prime focus for the bicycle auction fundraiser.

Initially slated to release on 25th January, ‘Pad Man’, that also stars Radhika Apte and Sonam Kapoor, will most probably come out on 9th February.
