Zanjeer Review

Rating: 1.5/5

One line Review: In every aspect, as delightful the original 'Zanjeer' was, so dreadful is the 'Zanjeer' remake!

Positive points: Awesome performances by the supporting star-cast.

Negative point: Poor characterization, Off-beat story, Faulty direction.

Plot: The film begins with young Vijay Khanna (Ram Charan Teja) witnessing his parents' murder. This incident haunts him through his nightmares. Vijay becomes a fierce police officer, who has been transferred seventeen times in his service in last five years. ACP Vijay gets transferred to Mumbai from Hyderabad for a mission to accomplish. In Mumbai, his target is to interrogate the corrupt underworld crooks.

Further, Mala (Priyanka Chopra) is a NRI, who landed in India to attend her friend's wedding. She witnesses the murder committed by Teja's (Prakash Raj) gang and so the gang chases after her. Teja is a notorious oil mafia. To safeguard Mala from the goons, ACP Vijay shelters her at his home. Meanwhile, he discovers his love feelings towards her.

Sher Khan (Sanjay Dutt), an illegal car dealer gets into clashes with Vijay. But the circumstances leads Khan to turn out friends with Vijay. An audacious reporter Jay Dev (Atul Kulkarni) lends ACP Vijay a helping hand in his fight against Teja. Vijay tries to mentally prepare Mala to fearlessly give statement against Teja.

Direction And Other Technical Aspects: 'Zanjeer' remake is lacking in all aspects of filming right from the screenplay to the cinematography. In one of the sequences, the camera man focused more on food placed at the table rather than focusing on the villainous, Teja. Screenplay is indigent, least expected from the director Apoorva Lakhia, who had earlier delivered the hit films like, 'Shootout At Lokhandwala'. The screenplay lacks the proficiency delivered in the original cult classic 'Zanjeer'. The actors are just enchanting the dialogues, which are meant to be expressed with emotions.

Taking in note the background score is just meaningless as it is not gelling up with the scene, where Ram Charan Teja was violently hitting goons, the Gandhian nonviolent track of "Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram" was being played there.

Experienced persons worked in the film, still they made such baseless mistakes, which even a beginner won't commit!

Performance: Debut of Ram Charan failed to attain the niche mark, which Amitabh Bachchan once created. Where Ram Charan was expected to deliver his dialogues as an "angry young man", he proved to be extremely cold. He said the dialogues, but they didn't emote. Even his climax fight with Sanjay Dutt wasn't intense enough. In fact, the supporting actor, Atul Kulkarni looked more fierce than him.

Priyanka Chopra geared up as a bubbly personality, although she didn't had much to do. Prakash Raj, has played an abrupt villain, doing some cheap comedy alongside Mahi Gill.

Music: The music composers Anand Raj Anand and Devi Sri Prasad have worked on the music of 'Zanjeer' remake. The duo have worked, but failed to create an outstanding musical album for the film. Apart from the track, "Pinky", all other tracks fizzle. 'Zanjeer' music fails to create recall in the audiences' mind, as a result they will forget the track as soon as they leave the theater.

Final Verdict: The film proves deep-diving flop when compared to the original classic, 'Zanjeer'. This proves the good things have to be left untouched, as the remake can't regain the charm, produced by the original one!
