Tum Mile Review

An intense love story with the 26 July 2005, Mumbai flood disaster as its drawback. Kunal Deshmukh's Tum Mile stars lover boy Imraan Hashmi and gorgeous Soha Ali Khan in the lead. After the success of "Jannat", Kunal has come back with a romantic movie with a plot based on real life. The memory of the disaster that struck Mumbai is still fresh in the minds of the people and thus makes it the highlight of the story. The story has the same old background with a poor hero Akshay, played by Imraan Hashmi and a rich girl Sanjana played by Soha Ali Khan. They fall in love and have a relationship which is very well shown. Akshay is an artist, who gets a job in Sydney and wants to settle there, whereas Sanjana wants to stay back as she is already well settled. This leads to fights between the two and ends in a split. Then after a gap of six years, they meet each other on 25th July 2005 and try to revive their loved memories. It then leads the story to its climax which has the floods sequences which was supposed to be the film about. Although they have shown floods to promote the movie, Kunal has made it a more romantic story rather than focusing on the impact and the consequences of the floods in the story. First half seems to be a typical love story trying to establish a platform for the final floods scenes which lacks importance and also the curiosity that needs to be generated towards the climax is missing. Imraan and Soha are really good with their performances and make you feel the love between the characters. But seriously, Imraan should start doing movies that are different from the regular lover story. Although he has done justice to the role, he already knows what he has to offer the audiences. Soha on the other hand has done well to portray her character that is stuck between love and career. Sachin Khedekar has a small role along with Mantra, who does well in his character as Imraan's friend. But if you are buying tickets to watch the flood scene, then the director disappoints you with the much publicized rain scenes are short and disappears before you can feel its intensity. This makes the publicity vanish in the rain, as the audience may feel that they didn't get what was shown prominently in the promos. The only respite being the songs of the movie, Dil Ibaddat and Tum Mile, with full marks to Pritam for his consistency with the music really cool and refreshing. Though the movie has been shot well, editing needed to be more effective as some of the songs don't need to be there in the movie. The script is very loosely written and has shifted the focus from the floods to the romance and relationship which leaves nothing unique for the audience to take home. All in all a movie which may have floods to promote it but can be watched for the songs and performances by Imraan and Soha. Enjoy!
