One Line Review: Laughter ka "Siyapaa"

Positive Points: Brilliant script, suitable star cast, amazing music & hats off performance by Kiran Kher along with Anupam Kher and Ali Zafar

Negative Points: The humor could have taken a level par with such an amazing script. Even could have waved off the viewers with an interesting end making them walk back for a second round.

Plot: Settled on the lands of Britain, flourishes the blossoms between an independent, do on her own Indian girl Asha (Yami Gautam) and the passionate, dedicated Pakistani musician Aman (Ali Zafar). Coming from a deliberate patriotic Punjabi family, Asha somehow manages to convince her family to meet a Muslim guy she has been dating & wills to marry but covers up his nationality. And as the day arrives, it proves a dooms day for the 'to be groom' Aman.

Starting his day off by getting detained under false claim of being a terrorist, Aman by all means tries to convince Asha to postpone the meeting ceremony to which she nods a no and in no time Asha drags him to her doorsteps. Firstly meeting Asha's niece, a toddler Aman gets a taste of the pie he's about to gulp, turning to be sour. Unfolding the pages, Aman slow yet steadily confronts the loose heads his love resides with. Starting off with Asha's Mom (Kiran Kher), women pissed up by her own family finds her peace with anti-depressant pills. Next walks in Asha's elder sis Jia (Sarah Khan), a mother of a five year old who walks out of her hubby's house over a quarrel. And then in the queue, a younger brother Manav (Anuj Pandit) who does not at all stands by to his name through his nuisance along with a grandfather who was serving the army a long back and is now served the best by chance.

Keeping his cool in not so friendly atmosphere, Aman commits a crime in negligence by slipping his hands off from a frozen soup container that falls steep down from the apartment window & lands on a mysterious man's head & flies him off into the star world. Asha covering up this mess informs the emergency services & sniffs Aman back into safe house, away from the crime scene. Handling up all the drama, the family realizes one key member to be missing, Asha's father (Anupam Kher). Searching the missing dad, the clutter somehow hooks up the chain to the mysterious man that can be allegedly killed by Aman himself, pouring milk into the soup.

Direction & Other Technical aspects: After warming his hands back den with 'De Taali', director E Niwas is back to direction after a long gap of five years. Judging him on his past record, Niwas has proven to have improved and even learnt from his mistakes. Catching up with the uncommon story line, the overall screenplay goes petty well clearing the ongoing scenario straight without confusing the viewers.

Cinematography too matches the speed to cover the angles & feel required to depict a comic turmoil on screen. Else what that doesn't gel up is the unmatched ending, after an hour and half of joyful ride the viewers are sensing another comic situation and this is when they are barred all of a suddenly with the end which lows the enthusiasm.

Along with using a masterpiece such as Mr. Anupam Kher for such a shorter span clearly depicts wasting a gem. His longer screen presence could have taken the ride on top gear which in return could have blown the rockets of victory.

Performances: Talking about the face of the film, leads Yami Gautam & Ali Zafar have delivered their best though Yami tries her best, is lacked back by the so called better depiction of a wobbling to be groom Ali Zafar. For the rest, Sarah Khan turns out to be seductress mistress to which the viewers show thumbs up. Even the fresh entrant Anuj Pandit leaves no stone unturned to deliver his best. Speaking about the veterans in the league, Anupam Kher has a little to offer but as usual shines his best even in a match box type of screen presence.

Merely, the only one that keeps on rolling around remains none other than the masterpiece, Kiran Kher. Depicting a high on life Punjabi mom who is all happy with her kids' happiness loses her cool to Pakistanis as a typical Indian. Her portrait has all kinds of emotions painted but, what shines bright is the possessive mom who at no cost wills to wave off her beloved daughter with a Pakistani.

Music: The actor cum singer Ali Zafar has brought up his talent as music composer through this celluloid. Working up with three tracks, only two "Palat Meri Jaan" & "Nahi Maloom" have made their space into the motion, whereas the third title track "Total Siyappa" is a promotional composition and appears at the end. Overall the multi talented lad has delivered a unique blend of tracks that molds pretty well for a satisfying album.

Final Verdict: Apart from the old cross border love stories which has some melodrama, action and later a sobo dramatic turnover of events, this motions adds humor to the so called drama. Never thought about different angle of the story is the key element of the film and definitely a must watch this weekend if you really thirsty for a change.
