Rating: 4.5/5
One line Review: This hard-hitting dark crime thriller is not for those weak hearted ones and makes you re-live the distress and threat experienced on 26/11 once again.
Positive Points: Daring and witty Directions; Apt ensemble of cast; screenplay; Impactful dialogues and intelligent camera work.
Negative Points: high decibels background score
Plot: The film seems as a documentary on the dreadful incidence occurred a few years back on 26/11 when 10 terrorists intruded Mumbai through an adjacent coastal area and terrorized the whole city for next three days. The story starts with the game plan of the terrorists. They kidnap a few fishermen and blackmail a ferry man to leave them to the shore for entering Mumbai and after it they brutally kill them all. From there they catch a cab and get down at Leopold Caf leaving a bomb in the taxi which gets explode till the taxi reaches Vile Parle. They reach the place and start firing at random towards people there. Until police may get the info they spread out as per plan as two of them enter CST (Chatrapati Shivaj Terminus) station who begin to shoot aimlessly towards the crowd with fully loaded Ak47 guns. Then the same two reach to Cama Hospital where they face a counter attack from Mumbai Police who bravely fight, not caring about their lives and instead of having much inferior armaments. In this battle of blood, many police lose their lives, but one among them suspected as a dead, informs the police headquarters on wireless where the terrorist are heading as they take Police jeep to reach further. From there, they fetch a car from a family on gun point and proceed further. The remaining group already waits at Taj Hotel with their men placed there in the disguise of staff many months ago. It also shows the terrorist Ajmal Kasab's journey till he was hanged at Pune.
Music: The background score, like RGV's previous few movies seems too heavy and over done. Loud noise do not create thrill.
Direction And Other Technical Aspects: Ram Gopal Varma has provided a masterpiece suitable to the brand he created, after giving a hand-full of flops in the past years. Finally RGV has brought something of his caliber to the audiences with an absolutely creative presentation. The film stands out for its unique story and direction. It comprises many hostile scenes. The scene where 9 dead bodies of the terrorist are shown in a morgue is frightening. The message given at the end of the movie forms the crux of it. Also the super effort of Mumbai Police shown in a positive light will stay in the heart when one moves out of theatre. The movie is something very different from the orthodox typical Indian cinema. Thumbs up! To the Art Direction as the CST and Taj attack scenes seems realistic.
Performances: Nana Patekar delivers a great performance especially, with his excellent dialogue delivery at the end. Sanjeev Jaiswal as Kasab is good. Arif Basra and Atul Kulkarni play their role to the Par.
Final Verdict: For someone who loves to watch movie on real life incidences this is a must, it will regenerate the respect and trust over Mumbai Police. We don't want to discuss such a review again, not once in the future because we hope that this tragedy never happens at any place in the world.
