Rockstar is a Hindi feature film that released on 11th November, 2011. It was one of the most awaited films of the actor Ranbir Kapoor after RA.ONE and few other films of other actors. This film has been directed by Imtiaz Ali who has given hits earlier such as LOVE AAJ KAL, JAB WE MET etc. Let's see whether he succeeds in giving hit this time also.
Story : Janardan (Ranbir Kapoor) is the protagonist of this film who is a young man. He is passionate about music. He loves music to extreme extent. He is a great fan of Jim Morrison; he wanted to become like him. He aspires to be a rockstar. But he was not born rich. He was born in a middle class family and locality named as Pitampura of Delhi.
But he is unable to deliver extraordinary performance and eventually he doesn't get posiive response from his audience. He gets depressed and doesn't know what to do to fascinate his audience.
Finally someone gives him idea that only a heart broken person can write appealing poetry and can deliver fascinating music.
Following the suggestion of one of his well wishers, he starts looking for a girl for his purpose. The girl is none other than a girl of his own college named Heer Kaul. She was the diva of her college who was beautiful and gorgeous. She had also broken many hearts. Janardan expects that she would even break his heart so in this hope he sets to persuade Heer with one and only aim to get his heart broken.
What happens when he tries to fulfil his dream? Does Heer break his heart? If yes then what else happens in the film? These are the answers given in the rest of the film.
Performance : Ranbir Kapoor has stolen the show. He has given his best till date. This film moves on the shoulders of Ranbir Kapoor. The film proves that Ranbir has done given too much time and energy to do this role.
Shammi Kapoor is also excellent in his last film.
Nargis Fakhri is okay in her looks and good in her performance.
Rest of the actors are good.
Script : Story of the film is not so convincing and there are many loopholes in it. The screenplay is so and so and the film moves fast in first half and very slow in the second half. However the dialogues are good, funny and catchy.
Music : Even though its music has been composed by A.R.Rehman, only a few songs are okay. Rest of the songs are below average and aren't pleasant and appear to be noisy.
Direction : Direction of the film is good. Imtiyaz Ali's frames and blocks are excellent and they make your mind fresh. However he could not keep the speed of the film consistent throughout. It becomes dull at many places.
Plus Point : Ranbir Kapoor's performance and lavish background and camerawork!
Minus Point : Unconvincing story and Music.
Conclusion : Since there is no other release along with this film, and no other hit film was released last week, this film would get advantage because even RA.ONE's business has dropped hugely. Since there are huge fans of Ranbir Kapoor and this film was well promoted, it is expected that in the beginning it will do good business and positive openings. However, this may not continue longer.
Verdict : Though it's not a must watch film, there is nothing wrong in watching it once. It's an average film!
