Roar - Tigers of the Sundarbans Review

By BollywoodMDB Team - Nov 1, 2014 04:58 AM

Rating: 2.5/5

One-line Review: As Sunderban dwellers irritate Tigers, similar thing Kamal Sadanah does with his audience who go for 'Roar - Tigers of the Sundarbans'

Positive points: Amazing Visual Effects, Superior Sound Quality and Picture Perfect Cinematography

Negative points: Baseless Plot and Poorly Managed Screenplay

Plot: A wildlife photographer Uday (Pulkit Jawahar) goes to the deltaic region of Sunderban, where he rescues a white tiger cub from poachers. This causes panic amongst the villagers. To get the situation in control forest warden (Achint Kaur) takes the cub away. Searching her cub, Royal Bengal Tigeress comes to Uday's cottage smelling the scent of her cub's blood. In avenge, she kills him and disappears with his body. This makes Uday's brother, Pandit (Abhinav Shukla) get into the tiger's territory, along with his team of commandos to give this man-eater a merciless death. A local tracker Jhumpa (Himarsha V) joins them on their trek, though she is reluctant about their mission.

The situation takes a turn when Pandit's revenge seeker team falls prey to the mighty tigress and to the dreadful forest creatures, one after the other. After losing his loved ones, will Pandit ever be able to look into the massacre from tigress's point of view or will continue battling with her till his last breathe, forms the further story.

Direction and other technical aspects: 90's actor Kamal Sadanah has turned director with film 'Roar - Tigers of the Sundarbans'. He owes appreciation for attempting unexplored animal-centric adventure genre in Bollywood. But his attempt goes wasted because of Abis Rizvi's lose plot.

Cinematographer Michael Watson has captured the dangerously beautiful Sunderbans with par excellence, especially the aerial shoot of the forest. Dolby Studios has imparted the superior sound effects and VFX shots designed by Anibrain have added points in 'Roar - Tigers of the Sundarbans's report card.

Performances: The white beast looked more real than the actors of 'Roar - Tigers of the Sundarbans', while performing on screen. However, Abhinav Shukla as Pandit has done a decent job. Cleavage revealing ladies Himarsha V and Naura Fatehi did grab eye balls, but it was definitely not for acting. Subrat Dutta made his stand playing an evil poacher Beera, while rest of the cast goes unnoticed.

Music:"Khatra" is sensational track composed by Ramona Arena, voiced by Neeti Mohan and Bonnie Chakraborty. Composed by John Stewart, "Rubaru" is amazingly pictured with beautiful effects and sung by Aditi Singh Sharma. 'Roar - Tigers of the Sundarbans' flashes its end credits with "Zara Jeene De" giving out a message to save tigers.

Final Verdict: Unethical and illogical plot dragged 'Roar - Tigers of the Sundarbans' into the downfall, as throughout the film Tigers were shown in the negative light. Only thing which gained the film 2.5 stars rating is its extraordinary visual effects or else 'Roar - Tigers of the Sundarbans' is a boring film.
