PLAYERS was one of the most awaited films of Bollywood of the year 2011 which released on 6th January, 2012. This is an official remake of the film THE ITALIAN JOB and main attraction of this film was Abhishek Bachchan.
But is he going to get any advantage from this film?
Story : Charlie (Abhishek Bachchan) is a Chartered Accountant in day time who turns a conman at night. He wants to loot gold of 10000 crore which is being sent from Russia to Romania in a train. A team is made which comprise different persons of different skills such as Bobby Deol, Sonam Kapoor, Neil Nitin Mukesh etc. Do they succeed in robbing the gold? If yes, how and what is the result of it? Such answers are given in the film.
Acting : Acting depends upon the role and the role what Abhishek is given is dull so you can't expect Abhishek to give an excellent performance. Above all if the role or the script is not good, even the best actors can not give their best acting if the script doesn't require. So what to say abut Abhishek. He luck is bad that he got such bad role. And the same is the case with Bobby Deol and other actors. They too couldn't prove their talent or say acting skills due to bad script. However, Sonam Kapoor did get some different kind of role but she couldn't prove her skills or she is not suitable for such roles. Bipasha Basu has tried to appear glamorous as usual. There is nothing worth to be mentioned about Neil Nitin Mukesh and Sikander Kher. Vinod Khanna is good. Johny Lever & Omi are also good.
Script : It is very disappointing. It neither entertains you nor thrills you. It neither sends you in meaningful thought.
Music : It is below average or say terrible. Abbas-Mustan earlier had the sense of good music selection but God knows what has happened to him. His earlier film KHILADI'S music was such a big hit but see the music of PLAYERS! What a vast difference! Pritam has completely failed to give good & pleasant music which he gave in some previous films.
Direction : The director duo or the brothers- in-white have done a bad job; in fact very bad job. You would have welcomed any debut director with such a bad film but for established directors such as Abbas Mustan, your expectations are high. But these brothers have let you down. In fact they have proved to be very unlucky for Abhishek Bachchan by using him in such a bad way! Most of the actors have worked with Abbas Mustan in his most of the previous films but they forgot the fact that this was the first film of Abhishek Bachchan with them so they could have something better for him or something special for him! Not such a terrible thing! Abbas Mustan could have done well but perhaps they have started listening to some other people rather than listening to themselves which is the reason why they gave you this kind of result.
Plus Points : Abhishek Bachchan, Cinematography, Action Stunts
Minus Points : Everything Else
Conclusion : Even though the star cast is very good such as Abhishek Bachchan, Bobby Deol etc. and famous or crime specialist director duo Abbas-Mustan, the film is not going to do well. Even if there is no other film in its competition, it is not going to get any benefit.
Why do people spend so much money on locations and other things and not on script? Everything here is good except the script!!
Verdict : Terrible work of Abbas Mustan! Watch if you love Abhishek Bachchan for his moral support else skip.
