Phas Gaye Re Obama Review

The movie is a laugh riot based on the impact of the recent recessions in each and every individual's life. It is directed by Subhash Kapoor and has actors like Neha Dhupia (who plays the female Gabbar known as Munni Madam), Rajat Kapoor (who plays a business who has lost everything), Sanjay Mishra, Amit Sial and Amol Gupte. The movie is produced by Ashok Pandey.

The story takes off from US where Om, character played by Rajat Kapoor, is a business man who is of Indian origin but is now an American citizen. He ends up losing all his wealth with the global recession that takes place. He is then forced by his bank to either make payment for the loan he has taken or to vacate his house. That is when he decides to come to India and sell his ancestral land and make payment to the bank with the amount he gets and get his life back on track.

Unfortunately, as soon as he lands in India his life goes further down when he is kidnapped by a gang of 3 (who too have been victimized by this recession) - bhaisaab i.e. Sanjay Mishra, who thinks that he will be able to buy himself a seat in the vidhan sabha after gaining the ransom demanded by them; Ani played by Manu Rishi, who wishes to go to America cause he believes that that is where he can make his life better and Amit Sial.

The problem is that they don't know that the person they have kidnapped is not rich anymore. Amol Gupte plays the character of Dhananjay Singh - a goon turned politician who seems to earn about 4 crore per quarter by kidnapping but unfortunately even that business now runs at a loss.

The cast enacts their respective roles to their best. For Rajat it again is simply fabulous! Neha is good. Amol, Sanjay and Manu Rishi were simply out of this world, fantastic and hilarious. Their comic timing does deserve a mention.

The Music Director is Manish J Tipu. The songs and even the background score provided goes with the flow of the movie and do not seem forcefully put or unnecessary. It does not create an obstacle in an individual's understanding. The album consists of songs like Sara Pyaar Hai Bekaar, Amrikwa Ne Loot Liya etc. But overall it is an average score.

The concept of the movie is simply great. Who could've ever thought of giving 'recession' a tremendously serious word an extremely funny outlook! The director has done a commendable job. He puts the story in a very easy narrative and very presentable format.

The script, especially dialogues of the movie are outstandingly funny! It consists of a lot of political comments wrapped in light humour. The screenplay is good. The cinematography done by Arvind Kannabiran is again fantastic! The one problem with the film seems to be its writing at some places because of which at times the movie turns out to be slow. Also the editing could've been much better and sharper.

They say 'good things come in small packages' this movie goes ahead to prove just that- A low budget movie with an interesting and unique concept and fabulous performance. Overall it is an enjoyable movie and is definitely your money's worth!

You must watch it if you want to relax yourself with satire humor(not senseless and irritating humor like Khichadi)
